Born in Kansas City, Chef Ty started flipping hamburgers at Sonic at 16 and has been at it ever since. Studying first at the Seattle Culinary Academy, Ty pursued an A.A., in Culinary Arts, named to the Dean’s List, and attended on a full academic scholarship from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Continuing in Paris at the École Lenôtre; Ty took Certificate courses in Chocolate and Pastry Work on a full academic scholarship from the International Association of Culinary Professionals. During and after schooling he diversified his training with several traditional stages, from working side by side with master chefs at multi-starred restaurants in Denmark to simple street stalls in Thailand. He has continued to cultivate his professional development with culinary focused adventures around the world. Closer to home, Ty has worked across North America in 5 major markets for a variety of employers and positions in both the front and back of the house: from dishwasher to Director of Operations. Ty has rich history with local organic farms through associations with groups such as Outstanding in The Field, working in the community with numerous service organizations like Share our Strength, and appearing on season 9 of Bravo’s Top Chef. Always with an eye on the future, and at the close of a decade of operating in NYC; Chef Ty relocated to Los Angeles to work as the Executive Chef & Director of Operations for Horse Thief BBQ in the Grand Central Market. This Texas smokehouse and outdoor beer garden serves southern BBQ classics with a west coast vibe to locals and tourists in DTLA.
