Kathy Fang is Chef and Co-Owner of Fang Restaurant located in SOMA San Francisco. This father and daughter duo has been running Fang for the last 10 years and come from the famed House of Nanking Restaurant which the father and mother still own and run. Chef Kathy Fang appears on various Food Network shows and even has become 2 time chopped champion of the Food Network. She writes about food in her free time and also started a new baby food company.

What tasting are you presenting? Why do you think this tasting paves the next wave of food trends?

I'm presenting Taiwanese Braised Pork Belly Over Rice (Ru Ro Fan). When I think about Night Markets, I think about Taipei. They are super famous for their Night Markets, where there are endless arrays of "little eats" or what we call "Shao Zi" Ro Fan is one of the most popular items from Taiwan. Cantonese fare, Szechuan Food, and Hunan Style of cuisines have been long time popular cuisines well celebrated in the US. But Taiwanese food has not. It's starting to emerge and become hip and popular. We see it in the LA food scene and now it's starting to pop in the bay too.

In an effort to promote sustainable gastronomy, how is your dish aligned with this future trend? (i.e. using local produce, plastic-free, etc)

We will use pork from local farms and include pickled seasonal veggies from the farmers market into the dish. We are taking traditional Taiwanese fare and giving it a San Francisco Slant but utilizing what we grow here.

What does the future of Asian food look like?

I believe there will be exploration of other lesser known cuisines in Asia. The younger generation will want to share cuisines they grew up and find ways to introduce it to the US in an approachable manner while not losing the soul of it.This means, new spices, flavors, new ingredients..

What does celebrating 10 lucky years of LUCKYRICE mean to you?

It actually means a lot to me. Fang opened 10 years ago and LUCKYRICE was the first event I ever did upon opening Fang. I still have photos from the first LUCKYRICE event that I look at. And I think about how far I've come and Fang has come over the years. And in parallel, look at how much LUCKYRICE has grown too. I hope this means Fang has great luck on its side as we've grown alongside LUCKYRICE.
