LUCKYFINDS: Raku

unnamed

Ramen has taken New York City by storm, but Raku is changing the game with its strong udon game.  A popular dish enjoyed throughout Japan, udon is slowly making a name for itself in a ramen-run world with shops like Raku serving hearty delicious bowls of noodles. Bypass the numerous ramen shops on St. Mark's Place and head straight to 6th St and 1st Ave:

Atsugiri Bacon
Thick-cut Bacon

unnamed (1)

Feeling indulgent? The Atsugiri Bacon comes with six to eight small pieces of thick-cut bacon topped with freshly chopped onions. Each tender piece of meat is cooked to perfection and pairs perfectly with the refreshing onions. The balance between heavy and light flavors and the chewy and crunchy textures adds to the overall depth of this appetizer.

Chicken Tatsuta-Age
Marinated Fried Chicken

unnamed (2)

Extra crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, these wonderfully seasoned fried nuggets are surprisingly light. Make sure to squeeze on some fresh lemon juice before dipping in the tartar-like sauce for an extra level of flavor. And don't be sad when, in three minutes, all that will be left is debris from the batter -- you can always order another round!

Niku Udon
Beef Short-Ribs & Honeycomb Tripe

unnamed (3)

One of our personal favorites and a top-pick on the menu is most definitely the Niku Udon. The broth is rich and flavorful with thick, bouncy noodles cooked to chewy perfection. The tender short ribs melt in your mouth while the tripe provides a lovely added texture to this hearty dish. You will absolutely find yourself slurping and sipping everything in your bowl.

Ankake Udon
Egg in Thick Soup

unnamed (4)

Are you a big fan of egg drop soup at your weekly Chinese take out outings? If so, the Ankake Udon is the option for you. Filled to the brim with a generous portion of al dente udon noodles and a thicker broth than the Niku Udon, this hearty and comforting dish has a fantastic flavor profile and is perfect for those busy work days or after an intense SoulCycle session.
